A concretionary nodule or mass, usually of calcium carbonate or of argillaceous carbonate of iron, traversed within by a network of cracks filled with Calcite, Aragonite, and Limestone. The name Septarian comes from the Latin word septem, meaning seven since it seems to form in seven patterns. The yellow-colored material is Calcite, the brown is Aragonite, and the outer grey is Limestone. Some specimens may include white or transparent Barite as well. It formed roughly 50-60 million years ago during Earth's Cretaceous Period.
